Permits to Burn

Contacting a Fire Warden

The Rural Fire Service website has a Fire Warden Finder page (https://www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/Pages/fw_finder.aspx
where you have two ways of finding the relevant Fire Warden's phone number.
  1. Enter your address in the search box on top left of the map.  This will zoom the map to your location and open a pop-up box with the Fire Warden's phone number.
  2. Click anywhere in the map and a box will pop-up with the name of the Fire Warden District and the phone number of the Fire Warden for that District.
So far as I can see, the details are accurate as of mid-August 2018.

If you can't get onto the internet, the following provides a rough guide:
  • East of Seventeen Mile Road (within 4km of Helidon) - Grantham North Fire Warden District [Grantham, Sandy Creek Rd, Ringwood, Adare (to Adare Rd), Vinegar Hill, non-urban North Gatton] - Peter Ingold (0427 423 683), Deputy Fire Warden Kameron Jeffery (0422 680 828)
  • West of Seventeen Mile Road (and also east of 17 Mile Rd north of Wallers Rd instersection) - Withcott No.2 Fire Warden District - Gerald Handley (4630 5168 / 0459 792 298)
  • Northern end of Seventeen Mile Road (both sides from Palm Tree Rd intersection) and Ravensbourne area: Ian Schultz (4697 8282 / 0427 133 622)
  • Deputy Fire Warden for Ravensbourne, Perseverance and Cressbrook: Margaret Maskell (4697 8104)
If you find out that any of this information is wrong please leave a comment on this site or email the Coordinators at smokespotters [at] gmail.com - pointing out the incorrect data and including the correct information if you can, and your contact details, so we can follow up with RFS.

 Before you light-up

 Don't forget to:
  • check whether there is a fire ban in place
  • check your permit conditions
  • notify your neighbours
  • notify FireComm (1 800 689 958)
  • notify a Smokespotter Coordinator (Gordon 0401 346 036 / 0468 427 008; Mike 4600 9960 / 0418 732 504 KP 4697 8053; 0405 559 812) - so the Smokespotters don't waste time trying to precisely identify the location of your smoke, only to discover that it is a permitted burn
  • check the current Fire Danger Rating (links here)
  • check the forecast weather conditions (detailed forecast for Gatton here, including predicted wind direction and speed, and predicted relative humidity, current conditions in Gatton here, including wind, relative humidity and indicative fire danger rating - this rating is a useful guide to the fire danger posed by the current weather situation, but this does NOT override the published fire danger rating)

when it comes to bushfires, we are all neighbours
